Seaside
Only an hour away from the Portland area lays the majestic historical town of Seaside. This peaceful beachfront community provides a beauty unlike any in the country. To the south of seaside rests Cannon Beach and the famous Haystack Rock. To the north is the upscale community of Gearhart. Many attribute Seaside to novelty t-shirts and saltwater taffy, but the town has an historical significance.
Seaside is the location where Meriwether Lewis and William Clark ended their expedition across North America. The expedition ended on November 7th 1805 in the current site of Seaside. The reason for ending at Seaside was the need for Salt to cure and preserve their meat for the journey back east. Over the years after the end of Lewis and Clark’s famous journey Seaside was the site of traders, farmers, and settlers.
The beach would eventually become a summer vacation area for vacationers from Portland and tourists from abroad. With the addition of the railroad, seaside would become increasingly popular. Nowadays the community has flourished and become a highly demanded area for real estate. With newly built golf courses and luxury developments, Seaside is the best place for your next vacation.
